Indosat Executive Invited to the U.S. on Mentoring Program
 

Jakarta, April 29 -- Ambassador Cameron R. Hume met Ibu Tinung Sulistyani, Corporate Account Manager for PT Indosat, before leaving for the U.S. to take part in the FORTUNE/U.S. Department of State Women Leaders Mentoring Partnership. Ibu Tinung is one of 35 women selected from among hundreds of nominees submitted by U.S. Embassies worldwide. During her one-month program, she will “shadow” Jan A. Bertsch, Vice President and Chief Information Officer of Chrysler LLC. The U.S. Embassy is hosting Ibu Tinung's blog, so Indonesian business students learn about her activities during her program.
 

U.S. Embassy Jakarta Donates to Primary School Madrasah Children

Jakarta, April 29 -- U.S. Embassy Jakarta, Uplift International, and Dharma Wanita Pusat together, launched a sustainable capacity-building program to fulfill the health rights of primary-level madrasah children today at the Vice-President’s Palace. The program is based on a public-private partnership which embraces and incorporates several United Nations Millennium Development Goals, and the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) will donate halal food as part of the program.


 

U.S. Trade Representative and Indonesia Trade Minister Meet to Discuss Trade and Investment Issues

Bali, May 2  -- U.S. Trade Representative Susan C. Schwab met today with Indonesia's Minister of Trade Mari Pangestu to discuss the United States-Indonesia Trade and Investment Framework Agreement (TIFA). They also discussed ways to further build the U.S.-Indonesia economic relations and cooperation on regional issues and the WTO Doha Round negotiations. The two top trade officials also discussed the importance of the two nations’ joint efforts to make progress in the World Trade Organization’s Doha Development Agenda negotiations.  (complete text)  


 




 


 



 





 





U.S. Provides over $3 Million in Assistance to Burmese People in Cyclone Aftermath

Washington, D.C, May 8 -- The American people, through the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), are providing $3.25 million dollars in initial assistance to help meet the most urgent needs of the Burmese people in the aftermath of Cyclone Nargis. This USAID assistance will be allocated by the USAID Disaster Assistance Response Team (DART) that is currently pre-positioned in Bangkok awaiting permission to enter Burma.

New U.S. Ambassador to ASEAN Visits Jakarta

Jakarta, May 8 -- The new U.S. Ambassador to the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Scot Marciel visited Jakarta to meet with ASEAN Secretary General Surin Pitsuwan. Ambassador Marciel and Secretary General Surin discussed mutual projects between the United States and the ASEAN community regarding regional integration, economic trade, and U.S. investment in the region. They also discussed humanitarian relief efforts to aid the people of Burma from a natural disaster caused by Cyclone Nargis. Ambassador Marciel will provide overall leadership in the pursuit of the interests of the United States in the rapidly changing countries of Southeast Asia.
