U.S. – Indonesia Debt-for-Nature Deal to Save Forests in Sumatra
Jakarta – The U. S. and Indonesian Governments today signed a debt-for-nature swap agreement under the Tropical Forest Conservation Act that will reduce Indonesia’s debt payments to the U.S. by nearly $30 million over eight years. In return, the Government of Indonesia will commit these funds to support grants to protect and restore the country’s tropical forests. This agreement, in partnership with Conservation International and the Indonesian Biodiversity Foundation (Yayasan Keanekaragaman Hayati Indonesia, or KEHATI)

U.S. Awards Grant to Enhance Indonesian Aviation Safety
Jakarta – The U. S. Trade and Development Agency (USTDA) awarded $341,000 in grant funds to Indonesia’s Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) to enhance the safety, security and operational integrity of the country’s aviation sector. The grant will strengthen DGCA’s oversight capabilities by funding an assessment of the Directorate’s current capabilities and recommend improvements to enhance effectiveness as an independent aviation safety regulator. The regulatory improvements will foster continued growth in Indonesia’s aviation sector.

U.S. Helps Investors Target Clean Energy Opportunities In Indonesia
Jakarta – Opportunities to finance clean energy projects drew more than 100 industry experts and investors to today’s Indonesia Clean Energy Investor Forum. The forum showcased projects from a competition sponsored by the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) and the Private Finance Advisory Network (PFAN). PFAN is a multi-lateral public-private partnership that was established by the International Energy Agency’s Climate Technology Initiative and is managed by USAID in Asia.

U.S. State Department Trafficking in Persons (TIP) Report on Indonesia
The Department places each country in the 2009 TIP Report onto one of the three tier lists as mandated by the Trafficking Victims Protection Act (TVPA) of 2000. The TVPA guides efforts to combat human trafficking. Governments that fully comply with the TVPA’s minimum standards are placed on Tier 1. Governments that are making significant efforts to meet the minimum standards are placed on Tier 2. Governments that do not fully comply with the minimum standards and are not making significant efforts to do so are placed on Tier 3
