The following list of health care providers was compiled by the Health Unit, American Embassy, Jakarta. Individuals are included after review of their education, experience, licensure and an interview by the present or a former Regional Medical Officer. The majority have had training overseas and are familiar with American medical care and have a reasonable command of English. The list is not a guarantee of competence or endorsement by the Department of State or the American Embassy. It does indicate that they have been utilized by the American community in the past. Retention on this list is by a combination of factors including availability, training, positive assistance in previous consultations and lack of consistently negative comments from patients. For referral to specialty care or hospital care, it is best to start with one of the clinics. Medical care in Jakarta is variable and the clinics have up-to-date information on the best facilities and medical practitioners in the area.

It is affiliated with Asia Emergency Assistance, a regional medical evacuation organization. They have a doctor and ambulance on duty 24 hours a day. As in all Indonesian health care facilities, only Indonesian doctors are allowed to treat patients. SOS, however, has an expatriate consultant physician on the premises most of the time. There is a better chance that this consultant will be involved with your care if the Embassy Medical Unit or Duty Medical Officer calls ahead of your visit. GLOBAL DOCTOR  Jl. This clinic is smaller than SOS but offers the same services plus an option to schedule a telemedicine appointment with a consultant in Perth. International SOS and Global Doctor offer the best alternatives for primary and emergency medical care outside the U.S. Embassy Medical Unit. R.S. JAKARTA  Jl. Jend. Sudirman Kav. 49, Central Jakarta  Ph.: (021) 573-2241 This hospital is the closest to the Mulia Hotel and the Jakarta Convention Center. It has a small emergency room and ICU. 110 beds. Doctor coverage is spotty. Should only be used in an emergency as the closest hospital.
