PHOTOGRAPH
REQUIREMENTS FOR
IMMIGRANT VISA APPLICATIONS
One photograph of the petitioner and one
photograph of the beneficiary are required for the G-325 biographic
information form. Additionally, two photographs of the beneficiary are required
for the IV application processing, and one photograph of the
beneficiary is required for the medical exam.
(Total: 4 photos of the
beneficiary, 1 photo of the
US
citizen petitioner for most immigrant
visa applications)
Photographs for IV
forms must be:
- 2 x 2 inches (approximately 5 cm x 5 cm)
- identical
- taken in the last 6 months, showing current appearance
- color or black/white
- background is white or off-white
- full face, front view
- dimension of the facial image should be 1.0 inch to 1 3/8 inch
(2.5 cm to 2.9 cm approximately) from the bottom of the chin to
the top of the head
- taken in normal street attire

Photograph for
medical exam must be:
- 3 cm x 4 cm;
- taken in the last 6 months, showing current appearance;
- color or black/white;
- background is white or off-white;
- full face, front view;
- taken in normal street attire.
Note:
- uniforms should not be worn in photographs except for
religious attire that is worn daily
- do not wear a hat or headgear that obscures the hair or
hairline
- head coverings may be worn if the presentation of a photo
without the head covering would conflict with your religious
practices. However, the face and ears must be visible.
- if you normally wear prescription glasses, a hearing device,
wig, or other similar articles, they should be worn for the
picture
- dark glasses or non-prescription glasses with tinted lenses
are not acceptable unless you need them for medical reasons. A
medical certificate may be required.
Effective August 2004, Immigrant Visa
photographs are not the ¾ view of the face, but full face, frontal
view photographs.
