Direct links to scholarly periodicals which allow some or all of their online content to be viewed by anyone with Internet access for free.

Google Scholar; http://scholar.google.com/
Google Scholar provides a simple way to broadly search for scholarly literature, peer-reviewed papers, theses, books, abstracts and articles, from academic publishers, professional societies, preprint repositories, universities and other scholarly organizations.

Open J-Gate; http://www.openj-gate.com/
Provides access to millions of journal articles available online. 

Scirus; http://www.scirus.com/srsapp/
Scirus is the most comprehensive science-specific search engine on the Internet. Scirus searches over 250 million science-specific Web pages.

Windows Live Academic; (a beta test version) http://academic.live.com/
Windows Live Academic lets you search academic journals and content for article titles, author names, article abstracts, and conference proceedings.
