FOCUS OF THE WEEK : AVIAN INFLUENZA An
Indonesian man and his two young daughters have died of suspected
avian influenza, triggering alarm about possible person-to-person
transmission of the H5N1 virus. According
to the World Health Organization (WHO), the next great pandemic will
not be HIV/AIDS, West Nile or even the Ebola virus. Instead, it will
be a variation of the avian flu seen recently in countries such as
