NOTE:  ONLY APPOINTMENT ELIGIBLE FAMILY MEMBERS AS DEFINED BELOW OF U.S. GOVERNMENT EMPLOYEES ASSIGNED TO THE MISSION UNDER CHIEF OF MISSION AUTHORITY ARE ELIGIBLE FOR CONSIDERATION.  AN AEFM DOES NOT HAVE TO BE RESIDING IN COUNTRY TO BE CONSIDERED.  THEY WOULD BE NORMALLY CONSIDERED WITHIN ONE MONTH TIME FRAME OF ENROUTE TO POST AND PHONE INTERVIEW IS AN OPTION FOR THOSE WHO HAVE NOT ARRIVED AT POST YET.

 

The U.S. Embassy in Jakarta is seeking an Eligible Family Member (AEFM) for employment in country for the position of Media Clerk in the Public Affairs Section (PAS).

 

BASIC FUNCTION OF POSITION:

 

Provides direct support to the Information Office when a native English-language speaker is required for editing daily PAS translated products; to maintain current and relevant Embassy and USG Press Guidance Reference materials, conducts media research and other special projects; and assures PAS/IO programs are properly recorded in the Mission Activity Tracking System.

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:

All applicants must address each selection criterion detailed below with specific and comprehensive information supporting each item.

 

1.     University degree in Social Science, Fine Arts, Education, Business, or related field is required.

 

2.     1-2 years experience in public relations, public diplomacy, journalism or corporation communications or other relevant experience is required.

 

3.     Level 5 English (Fluent speaker) Speaking, Writing, Reading is required. 

 

4.     Newspaper writing styles; public communications writing style; understanding of current bilateral and regional issues and U.S. foreign policy.

 

5.     Ability to edit quickly and accurately in English; skilled on all components of the Microsoft Office suite software, especially Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel and electronic distribution software for e-mails and faxes.  Ability to adapt to software upgrades as required by IMO.  Transcription skills important.

 

ADDITIONAL SELECTION CRITERIA

 

1.     Management will consider nepotism/conflict of interest, budget, and residency status in determining successful candidacy.

2.     Current employees serving a probationary period are not eligible to apply.

3.     Currently employed US Citizen EFMs who hold a Family Member Appointment (FMA) are ineligible to apply for advertised positions within the first 90 calendar days of their employment.

4.     Currently employed NORs hired under a Personal Services Agreement (PSA) are ineligible to apply for advertised positions within the first 90 calendar days of their employment unless currently hired into a position with a When Actually Employed (WAE) work schedule.
