NOTE:  ONLY APPOINTMENT ELIGIBLE FAMILY MEMBERS AS DEFINED BELOW OF U.S. GOVERNMENT EMPLOYEES ASSIGNED TO THE MISSION UNDER CHIEF OF MISSION AUTHORITY ARE ELIGIBLE FOR CONSIDERATION.  AN AEFM DOES NOT HAVE TO BE RESIDING IN COUNTRY TO BE CONSIDERED.  THEY WOULD BE NORMALLY CONSIDERED WITHIN ONE MONTH TIME FRAME OF ENROUTE TO POST AND PHONE INTERVIEW IS AN OPTION FOR THOSE WHO HAVE NOT ARRIVED AT POST YET.

 

The U.S. Embassy in Jakarta is seeking an Eligible Family Member (EFM) for employment for the position of Secretary in the Political Section (POL).

BASIC FUNCTION OF POSITION:

Serves as secretary for one of two units in the Political Section.  Provides all secretarial services required by the officers in the unit.  Fills in for FS OMS in Political Section and occasionally fills in for the Ambassador’s or the DCM’s OMS.

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:

NOTE: All applicants must address each selection criterion detailed below with specific and comprehensive information supporting each item.

1.     Equivalent of a University bachelor’s degree is required.

 

2.     At least 3 years in a professional office environment performing related tasks (OMS, secretary, researcher, etc) is required.

 

 

3.     Incumbent must know all Microsoft Office programs, Travel Manager, T&A program, Cable Express and Clout and needs to be trained in these if she/he does not know them upon entry.  Needs skills as “webmaster” as well.

 

4.     Level 4 (fluency) in Speaking/Reading/Writing English is required.

 

 

5.     Incumbent must know structure of mission and responsibilities of individual offices and section’s contacts in those offices; knowledge of DOS and USG structure also very useful.  Incumbent needs to have a good basic understanding of the political system of Indonesia, the country’s geography and knowledge about Jakarta (to advise visitors).  Incumbent needs to know Embassy/DOS security procedures, communications and other basic office procedures.

 

6.     Needs proficiency in the common computer programs that is used daily (Word, Outlook, Excel, Web skills).  Office Management skills are required.  Ability to schedule and make travel arrangements, coordinate projects, plan/schedule travel and leave of office personnel, etc.  Good problem solving skills, and strong understanding of an interest in issues of unit increases incumbent’s ability to perform.

 

ADDITIONAL SELECTION CRITERIA

 

1.     Management will consider nepotism/conflict of interest, budget, and residency status in determining successful candidacy.

2.     Current employees serving a probationary period are not eligible to apply.

3.     Currently employed US Citizen EFMs who hold a Family Member Appointment (FMA) are ineligible to apply for advertised positions within the first 90 calendar days of their employment.

4.     Currently employed NORs hired under a Personal Services Agreement (PSA) are ineligible to apply for advertised positions within the first 90 calendar days of their employment unless currently hired into a position with a When Actually Employed (WAE) work schedule.

5.     The candidate must be able to obtain and retain a TS security clearance.
