Jakarta – In conjunction with @america’s first anniversary celebrations, the U.S. Embassy and the Motion Picture Association (MPA) held the Indonesian premiere of ‘Journey 2: The Mysterious Island."  The event also marked the launch of “Hollywood Screenings," a program promoting the best of American cinema.

@america is the world’s first high-tech American cultural center designed to engage young Indonesians in dialogue on issues of importance to them.  Through partnerships with American corporations, NGOs, museums, and universities, @america creates dynamic programming to showcase the breadth and depth of American society.

Addressing over 200 guests from the various government agencies, film industry and media, U.S. Ambassador to Indonesia Scot Marciel said, "We are delighted to have a chance to premiere American films at @america, through this partnership with the MPA.  The United States produces some of the world’s best movies, and we are proud to showcase them at our cultural center.  Through the arts, including cinema, we can create a dialogue with young Indonesians on issues that matter most to them, in a common language.

“We are pleased and honored to jointly present this screening with the U.S. Embassy. Our country and Indonesia share a growing stake in encouraging a vibrant, legitimate marketplace for films and other creative works. @america is an excellent platform to promote our member studios’ films which showcase American culture, and utilize the latest cutting-edge technologies in film making," said Senator Chris Dodd, Chairman and CEO of the Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA) who appeared live via video conference from Washington DC. “The Hollywood Screenings program that we are launching this evening will ensure that both our film communities continue to build a greater appreciation not only for the cultural contribution of films but also the extraordinary economic opportunities they create.”
