U.S. Embassy Launches “Walk the Talk,” First-Ever Reality TV Show Designed to Teach English

Jakarta, April 24 The U.S. Embassy launches “Walk the Talk” first ever reality-show program starring Jason Daniels, which begins broadcasting weekly on Trans-7 on Sunday, April 26, 2009 at 10 am.  

“English is a language of opportunity, and in today’s world is a means to opening doors and creating new chances for personal growth and professional advancement,” said Deputy Chief Mission of Mission John A. Heffern at the program’s launch event. “I know many Indonesians want the opportunity to start learning or improve their English. In order to provide access to high-quality English language, the U.S. Embassy is proud to sponsor free-to-air broadcast programs like “Walk the Talk” 

The 13-episode program, produced by Paradigma Films, is designed to help teach English in an entertaining and unusual way. The program host takes viewers to different places throughout Indonesia and uses practical English-language vocabulary and phrases commonly used in daily conversation. 

During his travels, he interviews English-speaking Indonesian celebrities, including Luna Maya, Hanung Bramantyo, Ade Rai and the band Alexa, to name a few. During last segment of the half-hour show, regular Indonesians are encouraged to practice their English in everyday situations. Each episode has specific theme, such as mass transportation, creative arts, social entrepreneurship and helps viewers to learn useful phrases and vocabulary in different situations. 

Jason Daniels is an actor, presenter, and the host “Walk the Talk.” He has appeared on various sitcoms, sinetrons and FTVs, including “Sinetron Upik Abu dan Laura,” where he starred as the father of Cinta Laura. Jason originally moved to Indonesia to teach English 12 years ago, and speaks fluent Indonesian. 

The U.S. Government currently sponsors over 50 Fulbright English Teaching Assistants and Fellows who teach English at high schools and universities throughout Indonesia.

Jakarta, April 24 – “Walk the Talk” host Jason Daniels rides an ojek (motorcycle taxi) in the shows first episode on Sunday, April 26 at 10am.  Walk the Talk” is the first-ever reality television program on Indonesian television designed to help teach English, and will be broadcast every week on Trans-7.  Produced in cooperation with the U.S. Embassy, the takes viewers to different places throughout Indonesia and uses practical English-language vocabulary and phrases commonly used in daily conversation.
