Bahasa Indonesia

Jakarta, August 13 – U.S. Embassy Jakarta has provided a $46,000 grant to the Wayang Museum in order to help support the preservation of Indonesia’s Wayang culture. U.S. Embassy’s Counselor for Public Affairs Michael H. Anderson symbolically turned over the award with a plaque to DKI Jakarta’s Deputy Governor for Tourism and Culture Aurora Tambunan, at a ceremony marking the Museum’s 34th anniversary.

“We recognize the importance of the Wayang to Indonesian culture, and we are pleased to be partnering with Museum Wayang in its important efforts to protect and preserve this precious art form,” Anderson said. “We hope these funds can help preserve the Wayang tradition and enable the Museum to better preserve and showcase its unique collection.”

The grant was made under part of the U.S. Department of State’s Ambassador’s Fund for Cultural Preservation program, which provides support to cultural heritage preservation projects in select countries.

To date, the Ambassador’s Fund has supported more than 500 projects worldwide, totaling more than $13.4 million. Projects in Indonesian and other countries have included technical support for the restoration of historic buildings, assessment and conservation of museum collections, documentation to save threatened traditional crafts, improved storage conditions for archives and manuscripts, and documentation of indigenous languages.
