Bahasa Indonesia

Jakarta, January 30 Jalan Sesama (Sesame Street) kicked off season two today when U.S. Deputy Chief of Mission John Heffern joined Muppet friends Putri, Momon, Tantan and Jabrik, along with new additions, Belang and Agent 123, for a launch party at the National Gallery.

Jalan Sesama highlights the social and cultural environment of Indonesia,” said Mr. Heffern.  “The program promotes tolerance, diversity, and respect for the environment.  It also gives young children a chance to have fun.”  The first program of the new season will air on Trans7 at 9:30am on Saturday, January 31.

A host of guests are scheduled to visit the Muppets in their neighborhood during the upcoming television season, from national-known runner Suryo Agung Wibowo, actor Didi Petet, and the musical group NAIF to actress Rachel Maryam, and the culinary television host Bondan Winarno.  The celebrities will reinforce messages of healthy habits, exercise, and music appreciation, and the show will introduce a new character called Gatot Kata.  Gatot Kata is a character based on the popular wayang puppet, Gatot Kaca, who invites the audience to help him find objects that begin with a certain alphabetic letter.

Produced by the nonprofit educational organization, Sesame Workshop, in association with the Jakarta-based Creative Indigo Production, Jalan Sesama features furry friends and celebrity guests helping children learn basic cognitive and social skills, while math, and representing the vibrant diversity of the country region’s vast archipelago.  Jalan Sesama engages local educators and child development experts in creating relevant and age-appropriate content, such as encouraging young children to protect the environment and appreciate diversity.

Initial funding for Jalan Sesama has been made possible by the people of the United States of America through the United States Agency for International Development (USAID).
