July 23, 2009 U.S. Embassy Announces Facebook-only “FotObama” Contest Jakarta –Today, the U.S. Embassy launched its Facebook-only “FotObama,” photo contest, where Indonesian “fans” of the U.S. Embassy on Facebook can wish U.S. President Barack Obama “happy birthday” on August 4th by changing your profile picture and win prizes. The instructions for the online competition are as follows: 1. Snap it: Snap a photo creatively wishing President Obama a happy 48th birthday. 2. Post it: Update your Facebook profile picture to that photo, add a caption and post the link in the U.S. Embassy’s Facebook “fan” page note about the FotObama contest. 3. Win it: Prizes will be awarded for best pictures, including an iPod Shuffle, vouchers for Blitz Megaplex, Starbucks coffee, Coca-Cola, books, and exclusive U.S. Embassy gear and Obama memorabilia. The winning profile pictures will be featured as the Embassy’s fan page profile picture. The competition will run from July 23 to August 4, 2009. The U.S. Embassy is currently the only diplomatic mission in Indonesia with a Facebook presence. The fan page was started on January 12, 2009 and now has over 2,500 fans. The U.S. Embassy also uses other online technologies to connect directly to the Indonesian people, including an online visa appointment system and YouTube videos.
