New U.S. Government-Funded Tool Will Increase Indonesian Competitiveness Jakarta, March 12 – A new analytical tool funded by the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) called RegMAP (Regulatory Impact Analysis) was launched at a national seminar held at Bappenas. The seminar was organized by Bappenas in coordination with USAID and SENADA. SENADA is a four-year, USAID-financed project designed to increase Indonesia's economic growth and employment in labor-intensive light manufacturing industries. RegMAP collects and
conducts preliminary analyses of existing regulations to reform bad
regulations impacting the garment, footwear, furniture, and auto parts
industries. The need to assess and reform existing regulations in
Indonesia stems from the fact that commercial regulations impact
competitiveness in the domestic and global economy. Since mid-2008,
Bappenas has worked closely with SENADA to re-examine thousands of
regulations issued by local and regional governments.
