U.S. Embassy Hosts Children’s Buka Puasa

Bahasa Indonesia

Jakarta, September 3  U.S. Embassy’s Deputy Chief of Mission Ted Osius hosted a buka puasa at Cultural Affairs Attaché Anne Grimes’ house for 150 children, teachers and care-givers from the following six organizations that serve Jakarta’s children: Taman Suropati Chambers, Rawinala Foundation, Panti Asuhan Muhammadiyah, Yayasan Cinta Anak Bangsa, Bhakti Luhur Foundation and Nurani Dunia Foundation.  The evening started and ended with the children performing Indonesian and English songs for one and other and before breaking the fast and eating dinner together with U.S. Embassy officers and staff, volunteers from the U.S. Embassy’s Indonesian staff performed a lively and entertaining puppet show about bridging differences, whether they be physical, economic, ethnic, racial, religious or national.  The puppeteers interacted with the children and encouraged them to reach for their dreams.  The sequence ended with the children singing “Laskar Pelangi” together.
