September 4, 2009 U.S Embassy Provides US$100.000 For Earthquake Relief in West Java
Jakarta, September 4 -- The US Embassy has announced that the United States will provide USD 100,000 in early disaster recovery assistance to Indonesia in response to the September 2 earthquake in Tasikmalaya, West Java. The Embassy has moved quickly to release these funds at this critical, early stage of the recovery effort. The aid will be used to help deal with the extensive damage and casualties caused by the earthquake centered off the coast of Western Java. According to media reports, at least 63 deaths and 439 injuries resulted from the earthquake and the casualty toll may rise. In addition, government officials report that the earthquake damaged approximately 2,017 homes.
