U.S. to Provide Additional Funds to Help Flood Victims

February  12, 2007

Bahasa Indonesia

The United States Government through the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) will provide an additional US$100,000 to support efforts to improve hygiene, provide safe water and protect the health of affected people in flood-ravaged Jakarta and the surrounding communities. The Department of Defense has also donated $5,000 for medical supplies. This brings the total amount of U.S. Government flood assistance to US$ 205,000.

The additional funds will be given to CARE, Catholic Relief Services (CRS), Mercy Corps and Muhammadiyah to support on-going flood recovery efforts throughout the Jakarta area. The initial U.S. flood donation of US$100,000 was released on February 2 to support emergency response efforts by providing emergency supplies, hygiene kits, plastic sheets, jerry cans, cooking utensils and sleeping mats.
