Required Documents for Immigrant Visa (IV) Appointments

An immigrant visa (IV or green card) is required of foreigners who will be in the U.S for an extended or indefinite period.  U.S. law defines IVs in five categories:  fiancé (K), immediate relatives (IR/CR), family-based (F or V), employment-based (E) and diversity (DV) or lottery.

Immigration is a two-step process.  The first step requires the foreigner to be the beneficiary of an approved immigrant petition (I-130, I-140, I-360 or I-129) from an eligible U.S. citizen relative or employer.  Immigrant petitions are under the authority of the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), Citizenship and Immigration Services (CIS), http://www.uscis.gov/portal/site/uscis.

In limited instances U.S. citizens may petition foreigners in Jakarta.  Please learn how to file an I-130 at Immigrant Petition (I-130).

For information on how a petition in the U.S. may file an immigrant petition see http://www.uscis.gov/portal/site/uscis.

We see all IV applicants by appointment only.  Before coming to your IV appointment, please have in hand all required documents.  If you do not bring them to your IV appointment you will be found ineligible for an IV.  Only IV applicants with an approved immigrant (I-130/I-140) or fiancé (I-129) or other approved petition may have an IV appointment.

To learn more about IV processing please see the FAQs at http://travel.state.gov.visa.immigrants/info/info_3179.html.  The National Visa Center (NVC) will arrange IV appointments for all IV applicants whose petitions were filed outside of Indonesia.  If you are an immediate relative of a U.S. citizen whose I-130 was filed inside Indonesia you may request an IV appointment at Immigrant Visa Home Page.

Each applicant, even if a member of a family of applicants, must have separate documents.  We must charge USD 1 per photocopy if you bring insufficient copies.  All civil records must bear the original seal, stamp or signature of the official custodian of that record.  Download blank forms at http://travel.state.gov/visa/forms/forms_1342.html
